Adaptation of Lady Susan at Sundance Film Festival in I Love Jane Austen (June 2016)
Reviews
A strange little film - entertaining and more amusing than laugh out funny. Very much for Jane Austen fans - it's Austen on steroids. You can see the seeds of her later characters in this but without her later subtlety.
Love & friendship : in which Jane Austen's Lady Susan Vernon is entirely vindicated ; concerning the beautiful Lady Susan Vernon, her cunning daughter & the strange antagonism of the DeCourcy family. by Whit Stillman
I guess it could be called literary chicklit. I read it after seeing the movie and enjoyed both, but I think I wouldn't have enjoyed the book much without the movie.
I was intrigued by the idea of seeing Whit Stillman rethink Jane Austen, and I thought the novel might give me insight into his artistic process. But there's very little here that isn't in the movie, and the movie's a lot better.
Grim but funny trifle. The actors delivered their lines as if they had just memorized them seconds ago.
