First published in 1898, this book deals with how the ordinary folk practise Buddhism and attempts to explain its ideals in a simple manner to Western minds. Informative, but his attitude toward the feebleness of a woman's brain revealed the book's Victorian origin, although he did admire how Burmese women were treated as equal to men. Even Western women were not treated so fairly, Hall admitted.
