2023 movie #43. 2022. The fictional story of Lydia Tár, considered one the greatest living composer-conductors. A powerful woman who makes powerful enemies. A difficult movie requiring close attention. Cate Blanchett is wonderful in the title role. Up for 6 Oscars.
High-brow stuff. Breathtaking in its drama, its high-crafted innovation, its vision. It’s a ruthless but intimate tale of art, lust, obsession, and power. Its engrossing spell starts to dissipate over its final third, and yet this is that rare film about a creative person that feels neither self-pitying nor self-aggrandising.

Todd Field made the movie "In the Bedroom" from Andre Dubus's story entitled "Killings". The story is powerful, disturbing and satisfying at one time, featuring an insight into how love happens and what it can cause to happen. It could combine elemental human emotion and individual moral ambiguity with devout Catholic faith in surprising ways to bring about inevitable results. This isn't light cinema but there's light in it, which illuminates some shadowy corners of the human soul. Highly show more recommended. show less
