This book is a must for mothers of teenage girls. It helps mothers to understand that being a teenage girl in today's world is different to her world. That teen girls face problems we did not. It helps us to understand how to talk with them about difficult topics such as boys, sex, pornography, the Internet, self-harm and a range of other issues. The book also tackles the issue of why teenage girls often do not openly discuss their problems and concerns with their mothers/parents. The author show more Susie Shellenberger is the founding editor of a magazine for teenage girls, a former teacher and a youth pastor and well placed to write about such issues. As a child/adolescent psychologist and a mother I recognise the value of this book and its contribution to parenting girls in this era. show less
NCLA Review -I’m blessed to have a daughter that actually talks and shares her deepest feelings, fears, and joys. However, I did garner some great tips for improving communications and skills for responding rather than reacting to situations. Our daughters are growing up in such a different world with such unbelievable challenges (and I am not that much older than my daughter)! This book is organized in such a fashion that you can easily gain assistance and insight into a specific area you show more may be dealing with. It even offers tips for the dad-daughter relationship. And, what a joy to learn that the struggles we experience are “normal”! This is the type of book that parents will want to keep handy and refer to again and again. Very easy to grasp the situation and the tools of implementation are realistic and doable. Rating: 3—PL show less
