As the aging Gerard Reve's life drew towards the end, he found himself surrounded by biographers and others eager for any scrap of writing, and word they could write down from the mouth of the master. While Reve was obviously and disturbingly demented in his late days, he still seemed lucid and aware of what was going on, even though his lifelong partner was selling things from under him. With his progressing age, Reve's humour became increasingly rauceous: wry and very funny at the same show more time.

This portrait by one of Reve's admirers and biographers forms an endearing and wonderful portrait of Gerard Reve in his final days (which is also the way the title translates into English).

Altogether a lovely little book, which ties up all loose end, connecting the dots between his legacy and the biographical effort surrounding his final days, lucid moments, short walks around the house and some of the last photos in his home. show less

Wel een aardig boek, leest lekker weg..

Kort en dun maar erg leuk boekje: een (ongespecificeerd) dagje in 1996 met Hanny naar Reve die in Machelen woont met Joop (Matroos Vos). Gekibbel, je ziet de dementie al aankomen bij Reve, Fransen leidt kundig in, Hanny noemt GK vaak Treef, je krijgt de indruk dat de seks best goed ging, Reve een egoist was, niet geinteresseerd in Hanny's werk en bekwaamheden, maar dat het stukliep omdat Hanny de herenliefde niet aankon.

Over een kind dat op de verjaardag van Adolf Hitler wordt geboren, en ook Adolf wordt genoemd, en over de vader. De schrijver op zoek naar het oorlogsverleden van zijn vader
