A worthwhile read for sci-fi/lesfic fans. I just wished it were longer. The idea of a bunch of misfits led by a half-feared, half-reviled human/cyborg commander in a rickety spaceship fighting against bigotry and discrimination while carrying out missions no one dares to could certainly be exploited for much more drama, considering that all the characters have pretty compelling backstories, especially the two leads. This first of a series is only around 80 pages. It's cheap though, and show more addicting. :)

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. it was recommended to me by a fellow goodreads friend. I am glad they did. Aside for some annoying info dumping in parts, the book was well written, the characters well rounded with good development, and the pace good. This is an excellent little bit of multidimensional sci-fi that is thought provoking and introspective. A good read.
Book 2 of the Dark Matter Corps. Now that they have proven themselves capable, the ragtag crew of the Mariner finally get some recognition and logistical support. Unfortunately, they are still pretty expendable and get dispatched to what appears to be a suicide mission. The romance picks up but ethical and commitment issues threaten to derail it. Still too short at 80 pages. I understand the author has 5 books in this series. I hope the rest get published soon!
The concept was good, I thought but the execution was rough. Of course, I read the online version and not the published so the issues may have been dealt with.
