A thorough and lovely book about how to approach fine binding. Awesome and intimidating at the same time. Not for the beginner, but if you've got a few classes and constructing a couple dozen books under your belt (and understand the fundamentals of paring leather), it makes you want to work your way through the process and create a fine binding. More importantly, if you've got the underlying skills to approach the steps, you reach the end feeling that you can complete a full leather cover show more with leather doublures. show less
This book is a valuable addition to any bookbinder's library. It ensures that no step is hit and miss, every step is clearly set out with a separate discussion on technique. The black and white photographs are fairly clear. As this book is intended as a bench book it opens well and the text is clearly visible without forcing the book open. The author is very generous in imparting her knowledge and most questions are answered before they are actually posed (e.g. Gently squeeze the scissors show more and start to cut...try to keep the scissors in the same position...). It is good to get such a book that assumes that you have a bonefolder and the wherewithal to get started - not a beginners book. show less
