This pattern book, with the text building up and repeating itself with each new page, has a Halloween theme and great illustrations. The text is simple, with each new page introducing a new Halloween character until the last character sets off a chain reaction that scares them all away. I think the illustrations, done by Jimmy Pickering (who has done other picture books and also worked with both Disney and Hallmark), are what make this book so enjoyable. They are spooky but cute, bright and show more expressive with a little bit of foreshadowing on each page as the next character to be introduced watches from a tree in the background, slinks near the bottom of the page or sticks in a hand or nose. If you are looking for great pictures over depth of story, I’d put this on a toddler's Halloween booklist for some simple spooky fun. show less
The text is eh, but the illustrations are nice -- great colors, great lines, cute little black cat, etc.... I love those black curls that recur throughout.
Excellent illustrations, a building story like the house that jack built or napping house. Scary things on halloween hanging around a pumpkin.
