This photographic tribute to KABC-TVs Grammy-winning “Stars of Jazz” features a diverse group of musicians and singers, all photographed by the great jazz photographer Ray Avery.
In these pages, readers will find more than one hundred fifty artists, including such jazz luminaries as Ray Brown, Dave Brubeck, June Christy, Pete Fountain, Billie Holiday, Barney Kessel, Julie London, Shelly Manne, Johnny Mercer, and Howard Rumsey . . . all taken during their appearances on “Stars of show more Jazz.”
The show, hosted by Bobby Troup, a top name in jazz in his own right, was a groundbreaker in that, in the mid-1950s there was no regularly-televised jazz programming. But “Stars of Jazz,” first airing on a local Los Angeles station and then on the ABC network, gave viewers a rare opportunity to experience the talents of an extraordinary group of jazz artists, all immortalized in the pages of this remarkable book.
