Mom tells Max to do her chores, but Max always the same answer: "I'll do it later!"

This is a great picturebook masquerading as an 'easy reader'--reluctant or late readers will be able to enjoy Lee White's energetic drawings--in full color--along with Simone Ribke's dynamic, though simple, text. The illustrations add a lot of depth to the skeletal text, and encourages readers to engage critical thinking skills to understand the story. Max is a delightful character--active, enthusiastic, show more clever--and exceptional in that she's both black and a tomboy (evidenced by her choice in activities and clothing)--elements that come through only through the pictures. A great book for little girls who'd rather be princes than princesses, and for procrastinators everywhere. Interest in the story will probably wane by 4th grade; includes a word list that highlights the compound words in the text. show less
