Short biography
Sofia (Zsófia) Polgár was born in Budapest, Hungary. She is the middle of a trio of famous sisters, the others being Susan Polgár and Judit Polgár. In 1989, at the age of 14, she stunned the chess world by her performance in a tournament in Rome that became known as the "Sack of Rome," when she beat several grandmasters with a score of 8½ out of 9, one of the strongest performances in history according to the Chessmetrics rating system. In 1999, she married Dr. Yona Kosashvili, a Georgian-born Israeli physician and chess grandmaster, and moved to Israel, where they were joined by her parents. The couple has two children. Later, the whole family emigrated to Canada. Around 2012 she moved back to Israel, and now lives in Tel Aviv.
