2235 Vandemark's Folly, by Herbert Quick (read 1 Oct 1989) This is a 1921 novel by an Iowa lawyer which tells of a boy driving teams on the Erie Canal, who is separated from his mother, seeks her long, and is given a deed to 640 acres of Iowa land. He drives a team of cows to the land, in "Monterey County"--somewhere near Waterloo. Most of the book deals with his trip and his interest in girls. He eventually saves his wife-to-be in a blizzard by crawling into a strawpile! I appreciated the show more hero's morals. The book was worth reading, though not of a high literary quality. And also as an Iowan, I thought it was worth reading. show less
