This book isnt really a read as such as its mainly pictoral. What reading there is in the book is excellent and has you yearning for more, but the pictures themselves are top drawer, and a shining example of what football used to be like before Sky TV ruined it. There are some classic images, my personal favourite being of Eusebio, one of a handful of global superstars and the tournaments top scorer, swigging out of a hot water bottle after a game. This was the world cup and no bigger stage. show more I imagine even sunday league players would look at you funny if you offered them the same drinking vessel nowadays. I truthfull account of out finest hour, which tells it how it really was, the poor crowds, spartan facilites for players etc. Great stuff show less
Really good stuff - a book published 40 years after the 1966 World Cup - and read 50 years after it! Limited text but fascinating stuff. And full of great pictures - many of which I haven't seen before. And it goes way beyond England and the final!
