The Modern Writer and His World: Continuity and Innovation in Twentieth-Century English Literature by George Sutherland Fraser
Not bad. The section on criticism is very good though: a reminder of what people interested in literature did before we had to spend all our time reading Derrida and Said and Benjamin and so forth. Y'know. When people wrote in complete sentences less than 400 lines in length.
