This book was recommended by someone with family connections in the SAS, and is far outside my usual reading range. It turned out to be a surprising good read.
It is the story of young Kiwi who drifts into the army, first in the UK, and later in Australia, and finds his niche as a highly trained specialist sniper. There is a ghostwriter, but the final text gives the impression of being in the voice of the subject.
I ended with the thought that I am glad there are people who willingly fill show more these warrior roles, but also glad that there are few of them.
The book ends with the recently injured sniper retiring from the service to spend more time with his family. You wonder what possible career could follow - after being paid to shoot and be shot at, just about everything else is going to seem a little tame.
