Maybe not as thoughtful as Ralph Ketchum's book, but still impressive as a recap of Brant's 6-volume masterpiece.
A boy from a South Pacific island goes to sea on a voyage to the Yukon and British Columbia to trade with Indian trappers. It is the late 18th century and sea otter pelts are bringing high prices. The plan is to proceed down the coast of North America, collecting hides from the natives. But things do not go according to plan. Historically plausible adventure story suitable for young people.
