There is a disturbance in the universe, and it’s up to a bounty hunter to stop it. During his adventure, he will travel the universe with his favorite artificial intelligence sidekick to find and stop the villain. Does that sound similar to the plot of everyone’s favorite science fiction flick, who also happens to feature the world’s most beloved wookie?
Now I’m sure there are plenty of die hard star Wars fans who are in outrage right now. I’ll apologize in advance, I realize that show more I’m associating the two very loosely. However, I imagine that Braxton A. Cosby will be thrilled to see that I am comparing his novel Protostar to the (original) Star Wars trilogy. In this case, we have Prince William as a bounty hunter who is sent from his planet to capture and destroy the Star-child before she harnesses her full powers and begins her harsh reign over the universe. The biggest difference comes that the “villain”, in this case, is a teenage girl living here on Earth in the present time. The story is very relatable.
I think my favorite part of the story was IMPI. Sure, it might be nothing more than an advanced form of artificial intelligence. However, the story wouldn’t be the same without it. I loved the humor and wit it injected into the story. And the way it dealt with William made me often forget it wasn’t a human. But it plays a very key role in the entire book, and likely the entire series. It worries me that this is only the beginning of a series. Mr. Cosby, take this as a plea from a new fan: please don’t kill it off, or put it on the back burner!
I can’t say there is much I didn’t like about this story, but if there was one thing that confused me it was the climax of the story. I felt like the “final battle” went by rather quickly, but I can’t complain because I’ve read plenty of other novels that do the same. In fact, this story didn’t end right where you thought it would end. In fact, this story had a cliffhanger of the worst kind that nearly left you with heartache knowing it was over, but not over.
This story involved a lot of different genres, and so I can’t give you a specific group that I would recommend this to. I think that there are a lot of different types of readers who would enjoy this book, and so I recommend it to all. It gets five stars for being completely amazing, though I’d rather give it one for leaving me wanting more!

Born a slave, teen revolutionary Keesa qualifies for membership in a squad called The Hellions. Despite some cringe-inducing qualities (and despite being dystopian young adult science fiction), this novel will draw you in with sympathetic characters, a diverse and lovable cast, age-appropriate sweet romance, lots of action-adventure scenes, and a truly excellent study of the role of faith in a teenager's difficult life. Be warned: if you read this novel you're going to want all the volumes show more in the series and the movie versions people will want to make of each one, and the scope and pace of this novel leave room for forty or fifty more volumes. It's not Anne McCaffrey's Pern (no telepathic pets) but it could become a saga of comparable size. show less
I know of very few people who don't love a story that pits good against evil, has a romantic side to it and then throws some wickedly great challenges in. Braxton Cosby seems to have the recipe for creating fascinating stories that the reader can't put down. I started reading this on my commute to and from school. I was not making much progress. My evenings were tied up preventing me from reading. All it took was one glorious day with no school, no writing and the book was mine. I finished show more it in a little under four hours. I love the world Cosby has built inside "The School of Ministry". For every test and trial that Ziv went through I looked at my own life. They are life lessons that we can apply to our own life. Ziv has an issue with holding onto anger. The lessons he learned by looking within himself and the way it affected his walk with God made me to the same thing. I took these lessons he learned and learned from them myself. I don't think this was necessarily what the author was going for when he wrote the book. I believe this is just an added bonus. The Christian aspect was a plus for me. The non-believer as well as the believer will enjoy this story. The action in this book is told in such a way that for a visual person like me I was carried into each battle and training. I felt my heart pounding whenever Ziv's heart would pound. As far as the two possible love interests in the story, I haven't made up my mind about them. Cosby has left so many neatly tied up loose ends that the next book in the series can take many twists and turns. All of them will be absolutely delightful. The only thing I absolutely hate, is that I will need to wait for the next book in the series to come out. To that I say, "Write faster Braxton Cosby". show less
I purchased a copy. The opinions expressed here are my own.

I didn’t realize this was the third book in the series when I read it. It read as a stand-alone. However, I want to go back and read the first two just so I know how the series starts. From the minute I started reading this story I was hooked. I love superhero stories. The idea that every day humans were suddenly turned into superheroes is a very intriguing idea. Divide them into a good side and evil side and you have the makings show more for a wonderful movie or TV series. That is how this read. The characters are fascinating. Each has their own super power. However, the main character is a normal who used his talents to create a suit that makes him a superhero. He has a mission to make people believe that all of them can be superheroes by doing what needs to be done, instead of waiting on those with true super powers. I don’t know that the author meant there to be a message within the story but I did find it inspiring.
The beginning of the book tells us a little about where the main character came from, his backstory with an abusive father. His generous, and wealthy uncle is the man who changed his life. I would have liked to know what had happened to his father. It wasn’t really important to the story, just a curiosity of my own. The first two novels in this series are written by different authors. It will be interesting to see how their writing style flows with that of this current book. I did enjoy it. It kept me reading late into the night.
