in 2001 this was a major work, revolutionary for having three prominent reiki masters as authors, working 'together'. really, knowledge of japanese reiki had only come to the west two years previous and having three masters with their own practises and careers collaborate was relatively profound. Many aspects of traditional japanese reiki are covered with each author taking his own section. This makes the work a little disjoint as the writing styles are distinct and maybe not so cohesive. show more But these materials stand as expository of first seeds of traditional japanese reiki practise in the west. show less
I've been attuned to both first and second degree reiki for nearly a decade and somehow only now am reading this basic manual. It does not give the symbols (a big advantage in my opinion) but does give the history of reiki along with a great deal of technique. No matter how long you've been practicing you're certain to learn something from reading this text, and I can easily see myself using it as a reference in the future.
Reiki the Healing Touch : First and Second Degree Manual (Revised and Expanded Edition) by William Lee Rand
William Rand, through his International Center for Reiki Training, has brought Reiki to a huge number of students, perhaps one of the most prolific teachers in the west. This manual for levels 1 and 2 (which he teaches together) has morphed in many many ways since its first publication c.1991 (or earlier?) - Along the way, he added his own Karuna and Holy Fire reikis, and edited to add in strong material of Traditional Japanese Reiki as offered in Japan through Hiroshi Doi, Arjava Petter and show more Hyakuten Inamoto. Unless historically interested, make sure you've got the most recent manual which won't necessarily have a changed copyright date... show less
William Rand has done extensive research, traveling to Japan, to find the true origins of both Reiki teaching and Reiki practice. This manual covers the first and second degree without including the symbols that are given at level II. Extensive treatment hand positions based on Hayashi's work are included. An excellent reference for any collection of spiritual or metaphysical healing techniques.
