James Bond Parody in Name that Book (February 2012)

Somehow I found a paperback of this remaindered when I was about 14. I didn't understand half of it, but loved the parody. The sex was what went over my head. The casual racism did as well - but that was part of the parody, I think. The audiobook slightly revised the text, but it is still pretty much as I remember it. I loaned my hardcopy of this and "Matzohball" - the sequel - to a friend who had a very casual way with borrowed things. That is, they never got returned. I discovered how this show more happened when he loaned me a book that belonged to someone else and didn't expect it back. Aha. Anyway, this is still a period piece and staunchly politically incorrect. Proceed with caution. show less
If you, as I do, feel James Bond is satire to begin with, then the broad comedy of Sol Weinstein may feel forced on occasion. But if Fleming's creation has a real place in your mental furniture, you may find this book funny enough for a read.
Read this one over and over because it was funny! Somebody really needed to poke some fun at Jonathan Livingston Seagull, which was inescapable at one time. Cartoon illustrations include JSC dive bombing and Colonel Sanders gets a beak in the butt! Tee hee hee! That was some really gripping comedy for teenage me.
It passed the evening, but I was not impressed by the cleverness of the satire. Sadly, I remember the Ian Fleming film being more fun.
