June English has written a fairly extensive children's encyclopedia here detailing all the different kinds of transportation found on Earth. Everything from horses to rockets is discussed.
Chronologies, index, and glossaries are provided for easy reference. The book is written alphabetically, with sub-titles showing where the vehicle, animal, or structure is used, a diagram showing its basic parts, and a historical fact section usually detailing its first use.
This book reads like an show more encyclopedia, so there are no chapters or sub-sections, but each topic is easy to find.
The coverage of topics is mostly centered on Western Civilization, but I believe this is owed more to the fact it is written in English. Small sections mention the efforts of the Chinese, South Africans, and Panamanians, but mostly the book is about Transportation in and around the Western world.
This is a cute and informative book. I recommend it for children aged 5-11. show less
