These eight plays create a brief sketch of the evolution of plays by women in the early 20th century. The selections range from one acts to full length, and cover a variety of styles. The plays included depict the role of women in society, particularly in their interactions with each other. While these plays can be classed as by and about women, they are not lightweight fluff pieces, which seems to be how most people choose to depict such plays. They get just as raunchy and at times violent show more as plays by and about men; in other words, they are not a rosy, June Cleaver, let's all just have babies and be happy plays. They are plays about women struggling with a changing world, and in some cases, trying to bring about those changes. Well presented and easy to read. show less
