A sad story of a father who committed what was termed in 1937 a "mercy" killing of his daughter who suffered from what is now called schizophrenia. The books tells about the life and times of both the victim and her family, specifically her father. The stigma of both mental illness and family shame leaves a lot of information missing. A good read. 160 pages
Very well researched story. Other cultures fascinate me so I enjoyed learning about the jewish people and their history. Also interesting was the trial outcome and the aftermath for the family. I had to wonder if this had happened today how the outcome of the trial might have been different. I think the time period had some influence. Good book, worth reading, especially for those interested in the jewish faith.
Perhaps the most uncomfortable thing about the book is how little information about the dead girl survived. The family truly kept their secrets well.
