I enjoyed reading about the life and career of the current Washington Redskin's quarterback, Robert Griffin III. The story had multiple vocabulary words that were defined in the glossary in the back of the book. The book included a summary of Griffin's first game. Also, I enjoyed the background information about Griffin's childhood and life as a Army child. The book had many pictures that were real life and included supporting details about the pictures using captions, which are always very show more helpful. I enjoyed that Fishman did not do a boring biography or informational book all about Robert Griffin III, instead he included this biography to be a story line divided in chapters in order to show the life of the current National Football League player. Fishman had a balance between showing the positives and setbacks that the professional experienced rising to the top. show less
A wonderful book about colors and sports. A combination of professional sports and kids playing sports to show colors in sports activities. Ten sports are highlighted in a spread. One or two colors are discussed on a page. Basketball uses an orange ball because it “is easy for players to see”. Two girls are shown playing. Next to it a picture of a Los Angeles Laker player in a purple jersey with yellow letters because it stands out. Besides the popular American sports cheerleading, show more gymnastics, volleyball and figure skating are also part of the ten sports discussed. The photography is using women, men, girls and boys and people of color to give a nice balance of society in sports.
One of the last spreads of the book does invite the reader to color using crayola crayons.
There is a glossary with a couple of words and a page to learn more about sports. Although the books suggested are pointing more to crayola color books than books about sports. The websites are less promotional. There is a table of contents to start the book and an index to complete it.

This book clearly defines what Therapy Dogs do and do not do. They are not Service dogs and have very different, yet important roles to play. Therapy dogs have been used since WWII but they have only recently become part of the mainstream and widely used. The illustrations are wonderful and they add so much to the story. They show the dogs participating in the activities they are trained for and make it natural to see them and the people they work with in the natural settings. A great book show more to use in schools to teach about the roles of animals in our lives, to teach about acceptance of those who may have a therapy dog and to teach about how smart animals are. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. show less
This is a cute, simple non-fiction book about Koalas. It gives some basic information about Koalas accompanied by some nice photographs showing them in their natural habitat as well as the birth of a baby (probably in captivity). The author also talks about the issues of the environment and the shrinking areas for Koalas to live. At the end of the book are some more facts as well as resources to find further information. This is a good beginning reader non-fiction book for interest as well show more as a beginning point for further investigation. Nice put together. Could be used in primary/early junior classrooms or in a public library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. show less
