The older I get, the more I find that reflections like those included in this small book speak to me more directly and more deeply than do texts which are longer and more obviously clever. They are short but eloquent; they are not platitudinous in the way which spoils a lot of 'spiritual' writing; in many ways they remind me of the sayings of the Desert Fathers, though I would characterise these as having a particular gentleness too. It is one of those books to which one really ought to show more return again and again, and - even though its thought world is rather pre-conciliar - like the Water of Life it is completely pristine. show less
This book contains a unique collection of photographs taken within the walls of St. Hugh’s Charterhouse along with a collection of sermons delivered to the community. The photos are few but of high quality. And the sermons gives us a look into the spirit of the Charterhouse during the time these sermons were given; about three decades after Vatican II. The sermons are spiritual, insightful and thought provoking.

This is a book of poems written by a Carthusian. The eighty poems that fill this wonderful little volume where chosen by Robin Bruce Lockhart out of nearly one thousand that had been written by this Carthusian monk. We are very blessed to be able to read these inspired poems. I have found them to be creative and diverse.

This is worth reading multiple times. We are lucky that these were published and shared with the world. It will be a permanent addition to my library.
Five stars is not a recommendation. This spoke to me, no pun intended, because of some things I am going through. That is all.
