This biography on Michael Phelps is a perfect read for about 3-4th grade students if they would like to quickly find out some information on the Olympic-medal-winner athlete. The book easily displays the information by headings, subheadings, table of contents, captions, glossary, and an index. Throughout the text, students will learn lots of facts about Phelps, like where he grew up in Baltimore, and what kinds of awards he has won as an athlete. What will catch their eye and keep them show more engaged in the text, is the extensive amount of photographs and imagery use like, "Michael leaped into the water. He sped beneath the surface like a submarine." Key vocabulary words are highlighted in the text which make it easy for students to learn lots of new vocabulary. show less
