The historian Shamsu-Din Al-Aflaki compiled a series of anecdotes about the life and teachings of Mevlana Jalaludin Rumi, founder in the 13th century of the Mevlevi Order (whirling dervishes), as well as his predecessors and successors. The original title of the work "Manaqib al Arifin" literally means "praises of the mystic sages" and its style - to narrate the life of the dervishes through extraordinary or miraculous events - is a classic method among the Sufis; since, rather than adjusting to the historical truth of the narrated, pretend to cause an impact on the minds of those who hear or read it.… (more)
