Denise Low, 2007-2009 Kansas Poet Laureate, has 20 books of poetry and essays, including Natural Theologies: Essays on Literature of the Middle Plains (The Backwaters Press 2010); Words of a Prairie, a Kansas Notable Book; and Thailand Journal: Poems, a Kansas City Star notable book (Woodley 2003). Three Voices is a text, image, and videography project with painter Paul Hotvedt. She is a board member of the Associated Writers & Writing Programs, 2008-2012. She has taught creative writing at Haskell Indian Nations University, the University of Kansas, and the University of Richmond. Awards are from the Academy of American Poets, The Newberry Library, Lannan Foundation, Kansas Arts Council, Kansas Committee for the Humanities, NEH, Lichtor Poetry Competition, Pushcart Prize, and the Roberts Foundation. She has a PhD from KU and MFA from Wichita State University. Catherine Anderson is the author of two poetry collections, The Work of Hands (Perugia Press) and In the Mother Tongue (Alice James Books). She is the recent winner of the Richard Peterson Poetry Prize offered by the Crab Orchard Review, and has published in many journals, including Prairie Schooner, The Southern Review, The Midwest Quarterly, Imagination & Place, Many Mountains Moving and others. Since 2003, she has worked at Jewish Vocational Service where she advocates at both the local and national levels for interpreter languages services in hospitals and social service agencies.
