Short biography
William F.X. Band flew a P-40 fighter aircraft against the invading Japanese forces
shortly after the United States officially entered World War II. He flew 102 combat
missions as one of the famed Flying Tigers and was shot down four times, once by an
enemy plane which required him to bail out and three times by enemy ground fire. The
author’s colorful career following the War included earning his doctorate of law degree,
serving as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, special war duties in
both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, worldwide investigations for the State Department
and, on retirement, as Executive Secretary and Director of the Casino Control
Commission when casinos came to Atlantic City.
