Short biography
Margaret Campbell Barnes was a popular historical novelist in the 1940s and 1950s. Her vivid narrative style and careful historical research made her books stand out among others of the genre, and a number of them have been re-released recently with new covers due to renewed interest in her work. She was the youngest of 10 children born in the Sussex countryside and was educated at small private schools in London and Paris.
In 1917, she married Peter Barnes, a furniture salesman, and had two sons, one of whom was killed during World War II. More than two million copies of Margaret Campbell Barnes's historical novels have been sold worldwide.
