- Short biography
- I've been a journalist for more than 20 years, and speak about social topics no one else likes to talk about, like murder-suicide and date rape, at conferences around the country. I've spoken at Johns Hopkins University; UC Berkeley, California; and was thrilled when I was invited to give a TEDx talk in 2013.
I love investigative reporting and am writing my fourth book, Pretty Little Killers, due out in June.
My last book, The Savage Murder of Skylar Neese, with coauthor Geoff Fuller, was released in February 2014.
I was once an Associated Press stringer, in 1994, and West Virginia Public Radio aired my audio piece about the 2006 Sago Mine Disaster, which was pretty cool. When I have free time, I blog at my website, and contribute pieces to The Daily Beast and The Huffington Post.
I've won a few awards for my writing while reporting for and editing the following newspapers: The Cumberland Times-News; The Tracy Press; The Dominion Post; The Buckhannon Record Delta; The Kingsville Record; The Preston County Journal, and The Panther Press.
