While I loved the characters personalities and the various oddies in the world building the story left a lot to be desired.

The whole premise of the book is that they are trapped in a hotel because of an unexpected hurricane? Hurricanes aren't unexpected. So this left me thinking throughout the whole book that the killer brought on the hurricane to keep everyone trapped until they accomplished whatever it was they wanted. *spoiler alert* this didn't happen. There were also a few world holes that didn't line up by the end of the book.

The sleuth is a side character that investigated the murder off screen then announced on screen that she'd solved it. It was weird reading the cozy mystery from the eyes of a bystander LOL

There were many magical incidents that had nothing to do with the story at hand and were really just random happenings, I had assumed this was just to show off the world and how magic operates, but the actual killer, and reasoning had nothing to do with the party, the main characters or the witching world.

So it was really like we were reading a book from the perspective of one of the supporting characters in an average cozy mystery. weird stuff.

2.5. I was excited to see a new series by this author, but sadly, it just didn't live up to the others that I've read. And it was way too easy to figure out "whodunit."
