This is my second reading of the series as a whole and I finished this one (again) today. This is a very enjoyable series. I love the relationship between Parker and Nick, and Parker with his found family (Shannon, Laurel, Sugar and Runt). The scene in the restaurant with Nick's mom was heart breaking. I would really love to take a look at what is going on in Nick's head. A highly recommended series if you like m/m romance, urban fantasy and stories of the four courts of the fae.

Butler seems to have been affected by criticisms of the cops, because the last book (for now?) in this series walks far away from “alchemist cop and fae PI” to just make them powered-up magic folks fighting other powered-up magic folks, and also bigots in the military for good measure (with a little bit of class consciousness for renters versus owners of property as well). The big boss fight at the end goes well, and I was happy enough to leave it there.

This being book 6 we have well established the storyline and characters here. Parker and Nick do make an interesting couple. I would love to see things from Nick's POV but we are still fully seeing the story from Parker's. What starts as a simple search for a missing familiar turns into something much more complex and deadly for Parker. An enjoyable tale with a couple twists and a cliffhanger, all of which I kind of had figured out in advance. I'm looking forward to the next (and final) story of this series!… (more)

This book in the series finds our heroes preparing for a wedding and learning more about fae politics and the other worlds that abut ours. One of the old gods is trying to return and destroy all the others, as well as any human power, and so there are lots of battles and some power-ups. I think the next book is supposed to end the arc or even the series, so hopefully there will be a happily ever after.
