Sad how fast technology makes some books obsolete. When I read this in 2007, some businesses mentioned had already gone out of business. And as I write this in 2014, Google Reader has been born and died. Still a few good tips, especially in coaxing out search terms. But the older this book gets, the less helpful it's likely to be.

It turns out that really the cool thing about Google is that you don't actually need to hack it.

So this was interesting but not that useful.

Dry. Dry. Dry. I wanted to see how other researchers conduct their work. I believe if you learn one practical time saving tip from a book like this it's worth the read. Better as a reference for a specific topic than a cover to cover treatise.

The second half covers some of the other major Google tools like Groups, News, Images, and Froogle. None of these things are really that complicated and if you’re an intermediate computer user you already know 50-75% of it. But the book does a nice job of quickly going over the main Google features in a systematic fashion and it’s guaranteed that you will pick up some useful information. This is a small format paperback , 117 pages, and lots of pictures, so it goes by pretty fast.… (more)
