This was a fun, quick mystery read. Kept me on my toes, kept me wondering, surprised me half way. ;) There were a few unbelievable parts. The "romance" was a little -- I dunno -- campy. Overall didn't feel like a waste of my time.

I listened to this audiobook, and although this is my first Kate Birkholder book, it will not be my last. I'm late to the party on this great crime series!
The narrator did a great job of making each character sound unique, and I loved the layers of mystery pulling me in to question every character in the story, wondering if they were the person who violently killed Rachael Schwartz, a sassy, young, former Amish woman with a long list of people she'd "wronged."
I enjoyed learning more about Amish life, their beliefs, community, and interaction with those outside the Amish community.
Chief of Police, Kate, is a likeable, hard-working, never-give-up kind of woman, and a character I want to know better through her previous books.
I especially enjoyed the audiobook extra at the end of the story where the author and narrator sort of interview each other. It was a good glimpse into the author's process over the years with Kate's stories.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me this interesting novel that kept me guessing right up until the murderer was revealed!

Another great Chief of Police Kate Burkholder mystery. You just never know what someone is hiding and appearances can be deceiving. Kate gets called out to the death of a young amish man with an odd wound shape. This may one of Kate's hardest cases to crack yet. Everyone has nothing but great words about this young man and not one ill will word of his background but there has to be something unless this was just some random murder? Tomasetti has his own case of missing girls he is buried with and Kate doesn't think she will get anywhere until another dead body is found. Even though this person is not Amish, Kate knows in her gut they are connect, but how and who is doing this? I also loved the ending. I am looking forward to see what case Kate has to solve next. This review is of my own opinion and accord.… (more)

Kate is asked by New York authorities to go uncover to find out what is going in on in a strict Amish sect. Kate, who was once Amish is able to appear to be a part of the people of the area.
