I loved the narration and the story as a whole. It did not end as bittersweet as I imagined it would based on the reviews.

I have conflicting emotions about this latest book featuring our favorite psycop Victor Bayne. Once again he steps up to the plate and performs beautifully when push comes to shove. His inherent goodness and resolve shine through despite his insecurities, making me like him more and more. But I also found said insecurities to be extremely frustrating and at times, such a hindrance! Secrets abound causing paranoia and distrust where one step forward results in three steps back.

Be assured that Vic and Jacob continue to be one hot item (more please). Their relationship - both personal and professional - grow to new heights as they discover they're literally made for each other in unexpected ways than either imagined.

This was basically about trust. Who to trust? When to trust? Vic wants answers, needs answers. How far will he go to get the truth? How much does he reveal of himself as he continues to evolve and acquire new psychic powers? I'm reassured that this isn't the last book in the series, especially as Vic's eyes are opened to a whole new world where he can do the most good. He finally finds a purpose and I'm very eager to see how the next chapter in his life unfolds, hoping this new change brings forth more confidence, initiative and Jacob time.

Thanks again to Sofia and Ingela for letting me tag along!

This is a story about Michael. He's on a mission to exact some justice after his best friend is killed by vampires. In his pursuit of revenge, he comes across an intriguing vamp named Wild Bill and realizes that not all of them are inherently evil as he initially believes.

What ensues is a passionate affair between these two. JCP does not skimp on the eroticism. This is a story told through sex, especially showing the evolution of feelings and how these 2 MC's express themselves and communicate through said sex. Lots and lots and lots of sex.

Add in some disturbing violence and mix it with a little angst and you've got quite a nice urban fantasy going on here… (that is, in between all the sex). Just saying.

4.5 Stars

So does the sex continue?? Absolutely. But I would have to say that this morphs into something so much more. I've only read two of JCP's series (Psycop being the other) and she definitely doesn't write typical romance. She doesn't even write typical urban fantasy. So, can I really call this a romance? Well there is love - it is intense and desperate and consuming. You already know that this is blatant erotica, and now I can say it is mixed with horror and a ton of suspense.

So what starts out as a lust filled obsession between Michael and Bill, changes inevitably. What stands out for me is their vulnerability that's a constant presence. Each think the other is so cool, so composed and in control, when really they're both just as insecure and equally besotted.

I loved the progression of Bill and for me this series was more about him. He's definitely fatalistic, surprisingly (?) has a conscience and forever trying to make amends for a past that I don't think was that terrible. So he tags along as Michael plans out his vigilantism, keeping him safe but never really actively participating. He's such a pacifist at heart and ironically, more the moral compass despite Michael's idealistic intent.

They've come a long way, each possessive, protective, finding in the other some sort of salvation as they face the big bad world. Through dangerous situations and some emotional fallout, these two still come through for each other, warts and all - and I guess you could call that romantic.
