On Oct 30th Downtown businesses will welcome trick or treaters into their stores from 12-6pm. While downtown stop in at Jane Addams from 1-3pm to meet Robert Chapman who illustrated a children's book called "Gift For Abuelita / Un regalo para Abuelita: Celebrating the Day of the Dead/En celebracion del Dia de los Muertos" written by Nancy Luenn. Robert will be in the store with many of his works of art that were used in the book as well as other works. Robert will be signing the copies of the book that we have for sale. The book is about a little girl, Rosita, who wishes that her grandmother, whom she adored, could be remembered in a special way. She uses the occasion of el Dia de los Muertos to make a gift that is just right to celebrate abuelita. It is written in both English and Spanish. The illustrations are beautiful images of Robert's hand made cast paper works which will be on display at the store. El Dia de los Muertos, known as Day of the Dead, is a holiday where friends and family will remember those who have past. Celebrated on November 2nd with many traditions including building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration, where partying and eating is common.
