There is some really excellent material in here, especially in the concluding chapter on Vedanta with particular reference to the monism of Sankara and the qualified monism of Ramanuja. It's overall a good general introduction to Indian schools of philosophy accompanied by discussion of how each school's philosophy ties in with religion. I also like the use of diacritical marks to aid the transliteration from Devanagari to Latin script.

I can't give it more than 2½**, though, because there are typographical errors throughout, misspellings and transposed or omitted letters (including in one case, amusingly, the omission of the letter t from the word "immortal"). The copyright page shows 1st edition Calcutta 1939, 7th edition Calcutta 1968, 1st MLBD edition Delhi 2016. (MLBD stands for Motilal Banarsidass Publishing House).

I'm not sure if it's fair to blame the authors, though. Maybe the proofing has been better done on earlier editions and it's this new publisher that has everything loused up. If you can find one of those older editions on ABE, you might get more satisfaction than I got out of this current edition.

This book gives a general outline of Indian Philosophy. But, I think someone has to work on translating to English audience, technical terms. It seemed to me that, most of the Indian philosophical schools are writing about Karma, Liberation from it. They seem to have various schools writing in reaction to it. If you want to get a general outline, I would recommend this book.
