Summary:
The Little Red Hen spends her time differently than her friends. She stays pretty busy with household chores and making things while her friends tend to be more on the lazy side. One day she came across some grains and wanted to plant them so she could make some bread. She asked her friends for help, but they continuously refused. Although it was hard work, the Little Red Hen was determined to finish the job, even if she had to do it by herself.

Personal Reaction: I absolutely loved this book. Although the Little Red Hen's friends never wanted to help her, she never gave up no matter how difficult the work became. In the end when the bread was finished, all of her friends of course became interested. She made it a point to let them know that whoever helped do the work, could help eat the bread. Teamwork is so important, and I feel that this book signifies that as well.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. We could bake our own bread, with each student making a contribution (preparation and clean-up).
2. We could study the life cycle of a plant, and then each student can plant and grow their own.
