This book is faith based and practical. It has quickly become a reference book for me to wage the war on autoimmune in my home. Great job Dr. Colbert!

Dr. Colbert begins with his own story of a near death experience and years of consequences to his health that were brought on by this event and stress. He eventually discovered that he had an issue with gluten and peppers that was exacerbating his health problems. It began wearing on his body in the form of Psoriasis.

Using his medical expertise and his research over years of practicing medicine he shares many things he has learned about the food and exercise connection to our health. He spends this book pinpointing how a Mediterranean diet can help with a plethora of ailments including cancer, diabetes, arthritis, cardiovascular health, dementia/Alzheimer's and autoimmune/inflammatory disease.

He lays out the Mediterranean diet for us clearly and shares how eating and exercise can bring much relief and in many cases can reverse disease and illness completely. In each section, he also gives modifications to the diet for certain illnesses and conditions. He addresses GMOs and gluten issues as well as pesticides. His premise is... if you remove the thorn the body will begin to heal itself.

He is not trying to blatantly promote and sell supplements or gear in this book. (but there is a page at the back of the book if you are looking for something like that) He is open and honest about how this diet changed him and how, through his own research, he feels it can help many people out there that are suffering, too. He shares a four day menu sample at the end of the book of how to implement the plan.

He seems very genuine and I liked that about this book.

What made this book different for me was the Christian faith element. Don and his wife are Christians and share their walk through illness and recovery from a faith/biblical perspective. I don't see a great deal of that in other health/nutrition books.

I loved this book and will be using it as a reference a great deal in 2016 as I move through my own goals for fighting the autoimmune battle. If you have a family history or are already struggling with any of these issues I recommend this book. It is very affordable and his writing style is very enjoyable and encouraging. He is not condescending like other nutrition/health writers I have encountered.

First of all, let me tell you that this is a book containing recipes that follow "Dr. Colbert's Keto Zone", which is a wellness program that includes a ketogenic diet.

This book is great for those who just decided to stop or slow down on the carbs and realized that almost everything they cook has copious amounts of sugar and flour. It has a lot of familiar recipes like "perfectly scrambled eggs" or meringues and some other intriguing ones like avocado ice cream. Recipes use simple or easy to find ingredients that you might even have at home already. This makes it a great choice when transitioning to a keto pantry and for those who panic if suddenly they cant eat anything that resembles what they are used to.

I was specially interested about the snack and dessert sections, and this book had great recipes to choose from. I tried the garlic flaxseed crackers with cucumber mint dip and they were super fast to make. I only needed one thing from the store, greek yogurt. The rest of ingredients i had at home. I'm looking forward to try the cheddar chips and sweet nut clusters. Also included are breakfast, lunch, dinner and "basic" with recipes such as bone broth, coconut cream, sauces and dressings.

I liked this book. It might be a little too simple at times (like, I don't need a recipe for sunny side up eggs), but when trying a new diet, it's nice to be reminded of those everyday recipes you can still enjoy. If you have had a keto or low carb diet for a while and want to expand your repertoire of recipes, be aware that you might find many of them familiar or too basic, but it's worth checking it out.

I appreciate that Dr. Don Colbert addresses stress and the complications that arise from chronic stress through the lens of complementary medicine. His book is very informative as he goes beyond the typical eat well, sleep, and get exercise advice. He acknowledges that a healthy lifestyle is important, but he goes further by explaining why, even into the physiological aspects of the stress response. Some of the topics he discusses are reactions to possible food allergies, food chemicals, and lack of quality sleep; hormone imbalances, time management, distortional thought patterns, and how extreme exercise can prevent weight loss in those who are already chronically stressed. This book covers most everything one would need to consider when trying to reduce stress and adopt a healthier lifestyle.… (more)

Quick and Healthy Keto Zone Cookbook: The Holistic Lifestyle for Losing Weight, Increasing Energy and Feeling Great

I Picked Up This Book Because: I had already started considering a Keto Lifestyle and this book seemed like a good resource.

Good information giving upfront even if it was a bit “selly”. The recipes seemed as easy as the title suggest and I can’t wait to try a few.
