Created by Greenlight’s own Angel Nafis, Greenlight Bookstore’s quarterly poetry series, the Greenlight Poetry Salon, welcomes locally and nationally celebrated poets. This month’s lineup features Kevin Coval, author of numerous poetry collections and chapbooks, including the American Library Association Book-of-the-Year finalist Slingshots: A Hip-Hop Poetica and L-vis Lives! Racemusic Poems. Coval founded “Louder Than a Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival,” now one of the largest youth gatherings on the planet, recently the subject of an award-winning documentary of the same name. His newest collection is Schtick: Jewish Assimilation and Its Discontents (Haymarket Books). R. Erica Doyle was born in Brooklyn to Trinidadian immigrant parents; her work has been anthologized in Best American Poetry, Bum Rush the Page: A Def Poetry Jam, and many others. She is an administrator in the NYC public schools and facilitates Tongues Afire: A Free Creative Writing Workshop for queer women and trans and gender nonconforming people of color. Her newest collection is Proxy (Belladonna). Tonya Ingram is the author of Growl and Snare; she is also the 2011 New York Knicks Poetry Slam champion, a member and co-founder of NYU's poetry slam team, and a member of the 2011 Urban Word--NYC team and the 2013 Nuyorican Grand Slam team. Join us for what is always a joyful and energetic evening of poetry and performance.
