Nice shifter erotic romance. Quick read. Chubby heroine and a nice bit of angst. Right up my alley.

I didn't enjoy this book at all. There was literally not one thing I enjoyed about it.

The writing was awkward, clumsy, with unnecessary descriptions. The dialogue felt unnatural because the author stuffed it with unnecessary information at every turn. There are three lengthy sex scenes in a 100 page book.

Slightly spoilerish rant ahead (although it's not like the book has a plot that can be spoiled, really 🙄):
The MCs are pushovers and drama queens with gems like:

"He doubted anything could be colder than his own heart"
🙄🙄🙄

Jack is a man whose work & personal partner was murdered 5 years before. He still hasn't dealt with the survivor's guilt and the grief. At one point, he is feeling so guilt-ridden because he popped a boner and jerked off to the thought of Brant (the other MC) that he literally punches his dick with his fist with enough force he bent over in pain and had to put ice on his crotch. I shit you not.

“No, damn it.” He hadn’t even jacked off since Leo’s death. He wasn’t going to start now. Lifting a hand, he curled his fingers into an unrelenting fist, ignoring how badly it trembled. In a single decisive motion, he jerked from the wall, dared to touch his own flesh to make the contact count, then rammed his hard fist into his groin before he could change his mind.
And THEN he proceeds to have sex with the other MC a few days later, guilt not mentioned.

Brant has his eye on Jack. It felt like Jack was his project. At one point he compared not being able to let go of a dead boyfriend with having a sweet spot for your first love.

“I know you’ll always care for him. I have a sweet spot for my first boyfriend. You are the only one I love. Do you understand?"

They declared their undying love after 2 months, and proposed after 3 months.

It was just one thing after another. The only reason I didn't DNF is because it's short and I needed it for a challenge.

This is the second book by Diana DeRicci that was a fail for me, so from now on I'm giving her books a wide berth.

Way to short. The beginning of the book had a nice steady pace but the end seems to be rushed. Would have been much better if it was long and there was more to the back ground stories.

I liked both MCs very much but I did find some of the sentence structure a little bit awkward.
