O'Drisceoil provides a very readable and rigorous analysis of the censorship policy that prevailed in Ireland during the years of WW2. He compares how the system in Ireland compared to that of other European neutrals such as Switzerland, Sweden and Portugal. He also provides detailed portraits of the major protagonists in the embassies, the Government’s censorship board and the editors of the main newspapers. His conclusion section is quite interesting, particularly how he expostulates the impact that the censorship policy during WW2 may have had on the development of post war Irish journalism and reportage of world affairs and social life.… (more)
