Blue has a very sharp nose. He can smell trouble from a mile away. But now Blue has disappeared and might be in trouble himself! Blue will have to be very brave if he wants to make it home to his owner, J.D.

Blue is the best dog any girl could hope for, and J.D. loves her four-legged friend, but then he does not return home one evening. J.D. worries that poachers have gotten, as their rural farm has struggled with poachers previously, so she disobeys her Father and goes in search of him, braving the nearing darkness and possible dangers lurking in the forest.
It's refreshing for a story to be set outside of a urban/suburban environment, but kids may be put off by the appearance of the poachers, who are far more violent than expected. Appropriate for Grades 2-3, with a parent nearby to explain some of the events.… (more)
