A must for the beginner as well as the seasoned writer! It starts as most writing books do with basic techniques and writing surfaces, but right away the tone is set with actual pictures of Lisa’s tools. Not to mention it sounds like she is actually talking to you throughout the book and continues to encourage you personally. There are exemplars throughout that are easy to see and inspiring. What really sets this book apart is not only Lisa’s work, but all the other artists/calligrapher’s pieces that are used. A new kind of book for a new age of calligraphy from the classic italic to the pointed pen to lettering on fabric to urban style (graffiti) to mixed media lettering and design, and let’s not forget the section on making your own tools as well; this book has it all and you will want to continue turning the pages just to see what she’s going to teach you next.… (more)
