I loved this book. It is a history of Havana as well as a history of Cuba written by someone who returns to his city as a writer/traveler and a native son. He deftly weaves history, legend, nostalgia, and reportage in this book that touches on so many aspects of this beautiful city and its literary, historic and political threads linking it to the US. It is the book I would bring with me as a travel guide and resource, though the pleasure of reading it makes me want to read it again, even if I never go there.… (more)
