Quit this one at 40%. I expect a certain sameness in romance. When reading genre books, mystery, suspense, fantasy, horror, espionage, whatever, there are tropes that quite literally define the genre. If they are not there, the book does not fit in the genre. That said, I also expect every book to be different in some significant way from the thousands that have come before. This book was spectacularly generic, and in fact pretty much exactly the same as two book I have read this year alone. (The Last Word and Just My Type) I realize workplace enemies to lovers fake-dating books are going to have some crossover, but I am not going to willingly Groundhog Day myself. Not terrible, sentences are properly constructed and all, but wholly uninspired.… (more)

A very well paced book, I had a lot of fun with The Fixer Upper. It stars Alyssa a fixer (he he) and what happens when she is hired to fix a blast from her past.

Now, this book has all the usual romcom fare, but it truly shines in Alyssa’s character development. I liked how competent she was and truly enjoyed her journey from the beginning to the end. Dylan was fine too, and I did enjoy their banter but I am not sure that his character will stick as much as hers will.

I am also a sucker for a good friendship in a book and therefore really enjoyed Tola, Priya and co and tbh would not mind reading more about them… (more)

Loved this! Completely related to Aly. Her relationship with Dylan felt realistic. I loved the friend group around them and the family issues were really well done. I raced through this book.

Have you ever known someone who can give you great advice but hasn't a clue how to fix their own life when things are wrong? Aly works at a marketing company and has been making every effort she thinks necessary to get a promotion. In the meantime she breaks with her BF of 3 years and thinks back on her other relationships and with her friends figures out that all her former BFs have gone on to success after leaving the relationships with her. Aly basically fixed them so that they were able to be successful in business and life. But what about her?

Aly and her friends decide to test the theory and start a small "business" to fix relationships - Aly is the Fixer Upper. They are hired by a celebrity influencer to "fix" her boyfriend who turns out to be an old friend of Aly from high school.

Can Aly put aside her old feelings and do the job?

The book was a bit slow at the beginning IMO, and the characters need more fleshing out, but once the story started to develop it was amusing.
