The Welfare State (Sutton pocket histories) by Derek Fraser

An excellent introductory book about the emergence of the welfare state in Britain. This book details the evolution of welfare from the Victorian Poor Law, through the Liberal reforms and the Beveridge Report up to the modern age and what the future holds for the welfare state in Britain. A must read for anyone studying social policy and social welfare.
