Inventing Elliot by Graham Gardner
This was a very interesting book ala 'The Chocolate Wars". I really liked the protagonist. Thoughtfully written.
Elliot transfers into an exclusive private school, determined to put his dark past behind him. Things are not as they seem at Holminster High and the boy who was once ridiculed and tormented by his peers is suddenly offered the chance to see life from the other side of the fence and be one of the Guardians—a group of boys who keep the other students in line. An interesting and sometimes disturbing look at how a person can re-invent himself given the proper motivation.

A comprehensive record in chronological format of this club located in North West Victoria. The author is a high school history teacher and consequently there is some accompanying text about the origin and evolution of the township of Lake Boga which provides some welcome context to this history. Much of the text consists of reproduced newspaper reports, or after 1945, extracts from the minutes of club meetings. There are pictures of women's footy teams from 1948 and another from 1989 on pages 182 and 320 respectively.… (more)
