This book presents an English translation of a large number of myths and legends from the Yaqui tribe. These stories were passed down primarily through oral tradition and this book presents one version of each story even though that may very slightly in each telling. The book also provides some limited background to the Yaqui tribe. In a culture where we typically only refer to native American history related to tribes in the U.S. and occasionally Canada, this book offers perspective from native cultures that were found in regions that are now part of Mexico. This offers learners a more balanced understanding of native American culture.
