Short biography
"Alan Hamilton was born in Edinburgh in 1943 and read English and history at Edinburgh University. He has been a staff writer on The Times for more than thirty years, beginning as a specialist writer on trade unions and left-wing politics and the royal correspondent. He has also been the paper's diary editor and special writer, and was one of the first western reporters to gain access to Chinese-occupied Tibet."
